The amoral, corrupt, xenophobic, so totally despicable behavior of the former GOP, now nicknamed by The Women’s March the ‘Gang of Pedophiles,’ has reached the lowest level of Dante’s new levels of hell, repurposed to fit these unconscionable actors. The crimes against humanity of the Trump administration exist in tandem with the crimes against us, the USA, the Constitution, the physical and moral infrastructure of our country. Hate is the new COVID, incubated in Trump’s Oval Office and spread with help from his tech bros and Trump’s own ‘reality star performances,’ which he has down pat, if comedic and nonsensical. He knows how to get a laugh, stirred up anger at Don Quixote’s windmills, a stupor of cult-like emotion. Never facts, information, policies, reality, especially the latter.

There is so much of concern right now, but three areas stand out for me. The first are the multi-pronged attacks to throw and invalidate our mid-term election. Elections are the absolute foundational existence of our country. A representational democratic Republic is only functional with free and fair elections. This GOP is doing everything in their power using the funds of the wealthy who support them and our tax dollars, yes, Trump is using our tax dollars to fund some of his efforts at throwing the election. Their attempts include trying to silence the truth-telling, reality-based media; sowing blatant lies about Democratic candidates through TV ads and mailers; legal actions against so-called Blue states electoral processes; aiming at emotional responses of fear among white Americans of immigrants, refugees, religious groups, any ‘Other’ they can try to make appear dangerous, and much else, often unconstitutional and illegal, if not crudely immoral. According to FBI data, native-born Americans, especially white males, commit more crimes than any other group in this country. Not a fact most Americans know. Granted, white males are also in the majority. I suspect the actual outcome of the election won’t be known for weeks as there will be court cases galore. Given the perfidy of the Roberts Court to the Constitution, who knows how that will end. I want to believe in facts, truth, and reality; all of which are currently in short supply.
My second is the transparent, extensive, obscene corruption of Trump, his family, and friends. He was never a good businessman; he had 6 bankruptcies, screwed his contractors; and only survived with gifts from Daddy. The only thing he was successful at was as a so-called ‘reality’ TV star. I would hope by now that everyone knows all those ‘reality’ shows are anything but. The extent of this corruption has been well documented. It affects every area of public life. It’s more than a get richer scheme for wannabe billionaires, it’s damaging the workplace and lives of all of us. It’s greed is more than self-serving ; it’s blinding. Much of it is public record. My third concern is foreign policy because there isn’t one; it’s tied into the corruption above, but it also has thrown Ukraine under the bus, which is an absolute disaster. Europe is stepping up, but if Putin takes Ukraine, there’s no stopping him, and it’s clearly WW III, if Trump hasn’t started it before that, which will devastate the earth as well as the species ‘formerly known as’ Homo sapiens. The cozying up to Putin is strictly about money, but it has upended the world order that was created with hard work after WW II. It’s not just Trump and Putin that concern me, but Trump’s multiple acts of crimes against humanity, including illegal acts of war, violations of international humanitarian law, disregard for world issues including climate change, which will lead to more refugees and make life difficult to sustain everywhere. There is such idiocy in this administration, such as the illegal Iran War that Trump started. There are too many other examples; look back at the headlines if you’ve forgotten any.
The combination of idiocy and immorality carries vastly unimaginable destruction. If this administration is allowed to continue on its path, that’s what we’ll have. If not, it’s a matter of time before Donald Trump is in jail, which, of course, is why he can’t let the GOP lose.
