THE DISAPPOINTING HYPOCRISY OF CORPORATIONS

I have written about this before but right now the critical imperative to try to get voting rights bills passed is worth another mention on this topic.

Not surprisingly many United States corporations support the basics of voting rights. Voting is, after all, the underpinning of our democratic experiment. Right now, I’m sorry to say, that experiment is about to fail completely. Unless the voting rights bills currently in the Senate our past there will be quite frankly no hope for our future. Everyone is in agreement that they cannot pass unless something is done about the filibuster. I have other posts about the ridiculousness of the filibuster and how it puts decisions in the hands of minorities, which was not the idea at all.

Several corporations have spoken out about the voting rights bills and have signed a letter in favor of voting rights. At the same time many of these corporations are donating large sums of money to Republicans who have publicly stated they will not vote for those bills nor allow any changes to the filibuster nor will they even allow debate on the bills to come to the floor of the Senate.

Here are some of those corporations, which have both spoken out in favor of voting rights and contributed large sums to Republican senators publicly opposed to those bills:
