SNIPPETS – Election Week Fun

Is that really possible? Check out these suggestions.

Make a Blue Dot! Those Midwesterners know how to put some fun into these times. You’ve probably seen on the news or read about the Blue Dot signs and even gatherings (there may have been only one, I’m not sure) they’re doing. The photo was sent to me by a friend visiting relatives in Omaha, Nebraska. Way to go, Cornhuskers! They had the idea first, but that’s OK, you can copy it.

Log on to Joyce Vance’s website to share some chicken support. NO, this is definitely not a recipe, unless you want to consider it a recipe for smiling.  https://joycevance.substack.com/p/emotional-support-chicken?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email#media-fc6552ba-67b8-48d8-8ef6-a06ee2420121

Joyce was the US Attorney for northern Alabama from 2007 to 2019, among many other accomplishments. She currently has a ‘subscribable’ email about politics and the law, which I highly recommend. She unscrambles all the current cases against Trump for those of us who aren’t lawyers, among other legal issues of the day, like from SCOTUS. Subscribe here: https://joycevance.substack.com/

Consider subscribing to one of the Jokes for the Day. I actually don’t recommend that as they’ll be one good one in every 10 or so, but if you’re getting desperate or terrified, go ahead. Rather, just click on the site whenever necessary. Here is one I liked by Alex and Jeremy Minshull on https://www.laughfactory.com/jokes under the Political Jokes category. Don’t worry, there are other categories!

“A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: ‘Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?’ The survey was a huge failure. In Africa they didn’t know what ‘food’ meant. In Eastern Europe they didn’t know what ‘honest’ meant. In Western Europe they didn’t know what ‘shortage’ meant. In China they didn’t know what ‘opinion’ meant. In the Middle East they didn’t know what ‘solution’ meant. In South America they didn’t know what ‘please’ meant. And in the USA they didn’t know what ‘rest of the world’ meant.”

Personally, I think Eastern Europe and South America are far-fetched, but all the others are right on.

Whatever happens, continue breathing, working to protect democracy, voting rights, and making sure the 1st Amendment protects even silly jokes. If all else fails, find a chicken, a cat, a dog, or a horse and ask if they will comfort you for a moment. If none of those are available, try a tree.

As a wise grandmother once said: “It’s going to be OK in the end, and if it’s not OK, we’re not at the end yet.”
