This is only one of myriad examples of rhetoric that threaten us. Words do matter!
“[Madison] Cawthorn [2020 elected Republican Representative 11th district NC] referred to defendants in Capitol riot cases as “political hostages” and vowed to “bust them out” – and, asked by one supporter in the context of Jan. 6 when he plans to “call us to Washington again,” Cawthorn replied, “We are actively working on that one.” After briefly brandishing a shotgun, Cawthorn said if elections “continue to be stolen,” it will “lead to one place, and that’s bloodshed,” adding that he is “willing to defend liberty at all costs” and would dread taking “arms against a fellow American.”
Forbes online breaking news, August 30, 2021 by Andrew Solender, Forbes staff writer. Cawthorn made these comments at a Republican event in Franklin, NC. This has also been reported in multiple other news sites including The Charlotte Observer newspaper, ABC, NBC, and many others.
“The things that we are wanting to fight for, it doesn’t matter if our votes don’t count,” he said at the Macon County Republican Party headquarters in Franklin, North Carolina. “Because, you know, if our election systems continue to be rigged, and continue to be stolen, then it’s going to lead to one place, and it’s bloodshed.” A video of all his speech was originally on the county’s Facebook site, but was taken down soon after.]
Cawthorn’s spokesman, Luke Ball, said Tuesday in a statement that the lawmaker was advocating against violence….[Really??? Bloodshed isn’t violence? DHA]
